The author takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of emotions and circumstances as he presents a picture of life as an air traffic controller not only prior to the PATCO strike of Aug.,1981, but also during, and after the strike. This book is a must-read for those who want to learn how the author managed to endure the multitude of personalities and rules and responsibilities that occasionally clashed, while handling air traffic at several facilities, including Toledo, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Pittsburgh towers. Mr. Brenlove competently leads the reader on a journey that includes moments of sheer terror, and moments of stark boredom. Future controllers will benefit from the experiences recounted by this excellent writer.

Confusing career path - other than that pretty good,

Was very pleased with book that I received. Was in great condition as described and camein a timely manner. Would order from them again.

Actually 3 1/2 stars...I was a little disappointed in this because I was expecting more technical explanation of ATC practices versus a kind of memoir on Brenlove's life in ATC. There were some definite interesting parts and this book isn't bad at all, just know what you'll be reading when you get it. That being said, I'd probably still buy this book because, as I mentioned before, there is some value here and makes for entertaining reading, just don't expect to gain any real insight into ATC processes.

I found this book at the local library and picked it up on a whim. It's very good, and I highly recommend it if you can find a copy. Like another reviewers said, it doesn't include details about how air traffic control is done, but instead paints a picture about what it's like to BE a controller, particularly in the 80s before and after PATCO's strike. There are some great near-miss stories and tales about eccentric controllers that are some of my favorite parts of the book.

It's like sitting around in his living room, as he recounts story after story about personalities and the ups and downs of being an air traffic controller. While giving some very interesting information about how air traffic is controlled, the book is more about people; the people that succeed and fail as air traffic controllers. Of particular interest are the sections devoted to the 1981 PATCO strike, and the acrimony leading up to it. Of less interest appeared to be the stories about what a great guy X was, or what a jerk Y was, but in retrospect, these stories serve as useful pieces in the overall picture of what it is like to work as a controller.I recommend this book to anyone interested in gaining an understanding of a very special job and the people that do it. If you are interested in learning the nitty gritty of how controllers do their work, or in riveting prose, then you had best look elsewhere.

This book has become by far the best book relating to aviation, especially for the 1980's. I really liked this book, finding it hard to put down throughout the rest of my high school oriented life. I am an avid aviator as well as my father, and my uncle is a terminal Air Traffic Controller in Chicago. All three of us eventually read this book and we all really liked the way it depicts not only ATC-ers but also what a business working day with aviation is like. I, myself, am looking into aviation as a career and I made my mother read this. Great book. Dr. Chatterjee makes science-backed suggestions for lifestyle changes in four areas: relax, eat, move, and sleep. Each section has five suggestions. Some are easy (keep a gratitude journal), while others are more challenging (the screen-free sabbath, a digital detox). The book is easy to read and written in a relaxed style, but presents enough science to give clout to his suggestions.

Writing about health is hard. There are too many books out there to gain any readers with a book that simply gives accurate information. Too boring. Too banal. We want stories of successes. Something amazing. Something sure to change our humdrum, difficult lives and make living an exciting adventure. We want miracles.Enter Rangan Chatterjee, a telegenic British doctor with a "Four Pillar Plan" to make people feel better. Or more glowingly, "How to Relax, Eat, Move and Sleep Your Way to a Longer, Healthier Life". Apparently this title and subtitle worked in the United Kingdom, where his book still sells very well. But here in the United States it seems that title was not good enough. Here he promises to tell "How to Make Disease Disappear".I hate to be a spoiler in my reviews of books, but I will be this time: Rangan Chatterjee has not found a way to make disease disappear. Not hardly. His hints on how to eat and move are (I think) helpful, and those on how to relax and sleep make some sense.But none of those hints come anywhere close to making disease disappear. And none of those hints are particularly original or based on the latest science. I've read them all before.Take his hint to force yourself to drink 8 glasses of water a day. He admits that there is no support in medical science for this timeworn advice. But he knows it has helped hundreds of his patients, making their diseases disappear. Why not rely on anecdotal evidence? After all, what can it hurt to drink water. The worst thing that can happen is that you have to use the toilet a few more times a day.But no one else has made this startling discovery. Indeed, he cites in an endnote an article that contradicts everything he says about forcing yourself to drink water even when you are not thirsty. In that article, the author says: "Osmotic regulation of vasopressin secretion and thirst is so sensitive, quick, and accurate that it is hard to imagine that evolutionary development left us with a chronic water deficit that has to be compensated by forcing fluid intake."People have written books like this for centuries. Ancient religious writings often focused on health issues. In the last century or so, some combined religion and medicine to proscribe treatments. Read the words of Sylvester Graham (of Graham cracker fame), Horace Fletcher (the Great Masticator), and the Kellogg brothers (W.K., the cornflake king and John Harvey, the enigmatic enema promoter) if you want a laugh. They have not stood the test of time.More modernly and secularly, I read (and reviewed) a similar book a few years ago by David Katz (plus ghostwriter) called Disease-Proof: Slash Your Risk of Heart Disease, Cancer, Diabetes, and More -- by 80 Percent. At least he promised only an 80% reduction in disease, instead of the full 100%.If you like to read cheerleading-type books that make you feel like your hard problems have easy solutions, this book certainly provides that kind of a boost. And that's not such a bad thing.But that's what snake-oil salesmen sold back in the day. And that placebic boost was temporary and did little good in the long run. In fact, the main benefit was that those salesmen made money. That's the main benefit that will come out of your buying this book too. Not that your disease will disappear. But that Rangan Chatterjee, and his publisher, make money.

This book is amazing ..... Dr. Chatterjee’s approach to healing and medicine is so refreshing and positive. His recommendations for improving your health are common sense medicine for reversing Type 2 Diabetes and other conditions. Highly recommend this book.

A powerful, yet simple read. It's broke down into four key sections that are easily digestible. For me, instead of thinking about 100 things, now I can think about the key four: move, relax, eat, sleep. I feel smarter and equipped to make better decisions.

This book was my favorite read of the year so far! I heard Dr. Chatterjee on The Model Health Show podcast and it was a very insightful episode. All of the ideas in this book could be applied to ANYONE to enhance their lives. I especially liked the MOVE section of the book as that is where I struggle the most.. getting consistent movement/exercise. The way he lays it out is so simple/organized and makes you think of movement in a different way. I actually look forward to doing the (extremely simple) glute activation exercises!

LOVE this book. I use it with HIGH SCHOOL students to teach them the concept that complex objects are created by combining simple primitive shapes. These are a great conceptual starting point. Getting them to "break down" things they think they couldn't draw and begin to look for the basic shapes that make up most complex objects helps them gain confidence and have small successes to build on.

This is a great book for the family. However, It takes a lot of time to cut the pieces. So over time, I purchased 4 paper punches... 2 3/4",1 1/2", 3/4" and one small punch for eyes. Call me lazy but it saves tons of time. The book does supply templates for circles and such but if you can afford the punches do so.

I work in a school and was able to use this book with children ranging from 8-15. All of the kids enjoyed getting to pick out which animal they would like to make and then creating the stencils. As an occupational therapist, this book helps to integrate executive functioning, motor planning, coordination, and fine motor skills with cutting and gluing. It is an amazing tool to use!

All I can say is you can't go wrong with Ed Emberley art books. I am an art teacher and I love using the examples in here to show students that everything is made up of basic geometric shapes (square, triangle, and circle.) These exercises/examples are great for having people of all levels of art to really break down objects into basic geometric shapes. Also if you are into scrapbooking the exercises in here are great for you to create some wonderful paper crafts. The examples are given in easy to follow step by step picture instructions. There is a lot of examples to follow that are easy and fun to do :0)

A great book to use if you need a new and more creative way to teach fractions in the classroom. I used the simpler patterns with my first grade students and went very slowly, step by step creating the images with them. They had a blast! There are MANY complex designs/patterns to work with, which are better geared towards older students, such as 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. Overall though, my first grade class had a great time adding art to math using the creations of Ed Emberley. I'm looking forward to checking out some of his other books!

This is a beautiful book. I can't wait to use it when learning shapes with my grandchildren.

Have always loved Ed Emberly. My sisters and I used his books as a child and just about every child I know who's used them, loves them. His methods make it so easy to feel successful as an artist. This book is a fun change from his others, as it mixes collage with his basic pen strokes. We already had a Fiskars 1-in hole punch. I purchased a 1.5-in when we got this book. The punches make it so easy to use this book!

This book is certain to become my favorite lettering tutorial! Beautiful pages, detailed lettering instruction with a variety of fonts. One review I read said there aren’t enough practice pages. I suppose that person doesn’t know about tracing paper? With tracing paper you can use this book over and over again without having a book full of wasted blank pages. Instead every page is used for instruction or inspiration.

I am so excited to have this book. Chrystal Elizabeth is my favorite lettering artist. I am so inspired by her work and creativity.

This book is absolutely gorgeous and packed with tons of valuable tips. Chrystal provided lots of examples of alphabet variations as well as embellishments, plus fun project and layout ideas. A wonderful step-by-step reference for anyone interested in brush lettering!

This is a great book-love love it.

About a year ago, I fell into the rabbithole of lettering on Instagram, ran out to buy a brush pen because it looked so easy, and then promptly found out it’s actually Very Difficult. A childhood perfectionist, I immediately gave up because I didn’t master lettering immediately. I’m sure I’m not the only one.But I still enviously watched videos, wishing I could write pretty headings in my bujo. So when I saw BRUSH LETTERING MADE SIMPLE, I thought I would give it another go.The book starts with a few simple tips, such as how to pick a suitable pen for beginners and what sort of paper to use. The author breaks down several styles of lettering, such as “Bouncy Modern” or “Typewriter-Style.” Alphabets for each style are included. I wish the alphabets were larger, though.But the biggest problem I had with this book is the lack of practice space. There’s a blank page at the end of each section, but it’s often on the flip side of the example. That’s not useful! And there are NO worksheets to trace! I don’t want to practice in the margins! I want examples to trace over!Lastly, how about a few tips for lefties?

For anyone interested in learning brush lettering, this is the perfect book. It starts with the very basics - unlike other books this does not assume you know anything. It starts right from the beginning and walks the reader through the basics through more advanced techniques of brush lettering. I don't have much artistic talent but the instructions here are clear and easy to follow and I have been able to produce some good results. You will learn about supplies and there some practice pages are included. This is also a nicely bound book with beautiful illustrations. It would make a nice gift, for yourself or someone else interested in the art of brush lettering.

I did like her sample alphabets, but some practice pages are not even facing the example and are just cute decorated blanks -- decorated by her watercolor florals around the edges. If you have completed a couple of basic workbooks, this is truly the next step. She does have tons of information on decoration, joining letters in a nice way etc And tons of pretty projects that you could potentially display or something! Lovely ideas on color, fancy alphabets and so on. Just don't do this book first and you will be fine. But definitely add it to your library -- I found this more enjoyable than coloring pages.

There is a lot to like about "Brush Lettering Made Simple: A Step-by-Step Workbook to Create Gorgeous Freeform Lettered Art" by Chrystal Elizabeth. It is a soothing book to look through which for me is good. The author gives a lot of explanation and examples so the instructions were easy to follow. I have to admit that maybe I'm just not a lettering person because my impatience would get to me but one of the younger family members (early teen) who is starting to do more planning and scrap booking really enjoys it. She has the patience to work through the workbook and honestly, the effort is paying off. She inspires me to try to be a little more patient with the exercises.The point of that is that the book provides good instructions that a motivated reader can follow and see her (or his) efforts pay off with practicing the exercises.

I was given the luck of getting to teach a behavior class to some of my Special Ed students. There was a general idea of what I need to teach, but no curriculum or resources whatsoever. This book has been a lifesaving Godsend. The lessons are organized in a logical order and deal with issues that are completely relevant to my elementary aged students with issues learning proper school behavior. I would like it if the lessons were a little more involved and longer lasting; but these lessons are a great starting point and help me organize how I will teach my class. I just find other lessons online to supplement the lessons in the book...or come up with my own ideas! I'm so happy I found this book!

I teach special ed middle school students. This is an excellent resource, very practical lesson and easily taught in 5-10 minutes. I like it much, much better than the school district's choice of Second Step (which puts the kids to sleep and they hate).

My son has high-functioning Aspergers and like all parents I want him to have all the skills necessary to succeed. With that being said, I reviewed a bunch of books, ordered them from the library and tried them out. This is the only one I liked so much I went out and purchased my own copy. It is perfect for ages 5 - 12 years with High functioning Aspergers. My five year old daughter loves it just because it is fun and made her think, my 8 year old son who has Aspergers had trouble with some things but others he got right away. Definitely a good learning book and works for both teachers and partents alike. Even young school age children without Special Needs would learn alot from this book.The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because there is a newer version of the book which I heard is even better and when I order that one, if I like it I will give it five stars.

Not crazy that it says for Special Children....but the activities and stories are great. I'm able to use the provided lesson for a quick social skills group and the kids enjoy them. They are super easy to change to fit the needs of individual students as well.

This book takes common sense & states the obvious. The material is not creative & the lessons are mostly in worksheet form, not 'activities' that are interactive. I have not used this book at all in my practice & felt it was a waste of my money.

I thought there was much more or less of Plans. I was disappointed that was not able to look what was inside to help make my decision in ordering. Because I would not of order this book for the needs I had. It wasted my money.

Love that these are easy to teach to my students!!!

So far this book has been excellent and exactly what we expected. Does a good job of leading and teaching important social skills that are difficult for some kids to learn naturally.
