I never really considered opening a coffee shop, but for some reason this book title caught my eye. I'm always interested in small business opportunities. It gave me some insight from a fellow small business owner and I think that I have found a nugget or two that I can apply to my own small business. I read some of the negative reviews and I didn't see the same issues that were described.

This book is poorly written. It is full af bad grammar and sentences that do not make sense. It also just goes over the most obvious things about starting a coffee shop without going into any details. I would not recommend this book for the serious person wanting to start a coffee shop.

Great book for anyone looking to start a coffee shop business. Information is creative, and insightful. Sections about price strategy/marketing and promotion were things I learned thanks to this book. Easy and entertaining read. Could not put it down; read it in one day (153 pages).Thank you Rick for the motivation to make our dream become a reality.David in Texasdavef72@hotmail.com

Horribly written crap.

The editing on this book is terrible. The photos are just google image searched, cut and pasted, sometimes boot really relevant to the subject. There are many typos and sentences that are grammatically confusing. It feels as though it was written through one of those online services that help you ghost write a book. All the good reviews of this book appear to be written by bots or paid reviewers. There is relevant information in here, that you could easily find on the web, and the clumsy writting trips it up. I don't believe Rick Robinson exists, rather this is just a bunch of info scraped from the web on the topic of owning a coffee shop.

I am a coffee drinker and I have often wondered what it takes to start up a coffee business. Well, I don’t have to wonder anymore. This book captures the essential components someone will need to know in order to start up their own coffee shop. Also, the book really conveys in a very organized manner the important steps and actions that are required in starting a coffee business. Nothing is spared but much is provided in terms of informing the reading on how to become the next coffee shop owner. Coffee drinkers have been around for centuries and with all the different types of specialty drinks a coffee shop can make these days, there will continue to be coffee drinkers.So much detail is provided in the book and I love how the author is passionate about informing the reader how beneficial the location of the coffee shop is to the success of the business. It is really important to have a coffee shop that is accessible to people traveling on foot and for people traveling by car.This book covers so much detail in a way that it is easy to read and absorb. A coffee shop can be therapeutic for people from the great aroma smells of the coffee down to the calming decor of the establishment. Knowing the nuts and bolts of what it takes to open a coffee shop is so important and this book does exactly that.This book informs the reader about how to be creative with the decor of the coffee shop, as well, as making the business represent the uniqueness of who you are. Yes, starting up your own coffee shop involves dedication, determination, and staying focus on the end results while tackling the necessary steps that are involved. This book provides the reader with facts, suggestions, and options towards turning the dream of owning your own coffee shop into a reality.

Good read , useful info

I knew coffee and coffee shops both are gaining popularity, but I didn't know they were growing that rapidly till I read this book. I think this is the era of coffee shops like the bars were during the great depression of the 30's. I have read a few restaurant/coffee shop business books lately and I must say this is the only book that took the most comprehensive approach to "How to start a Coffee shop Business". Ass I read through it, I can tell the owner has through each of the steps himself, otherwise, it is hard to go into that much detail just from online research. If you are thinking about opening a coffee shop business, I think you should consider adding some type of snacks or food with your coffee and don't just have coffee on the menu. I recently spoke with a coffee shop owner who told me, he makes more money from food-related sales then he does from coffee-related sales, even though coffee by far has the biggest profit margin. This book, hits the nail right on the head, the author also stresses that foods should be added to the menu, but it has to be simple food and not anything too labor intensive.

Amazon.com Review

This new version of the Star Trek Encyclopedia is a reissue of the 1997 edition, plus a 128-page supplement of additional material that updates Deep Space Nine to the end of its run and Voyager to midway through season five. It also covers the movie Star Trek: Insurrection. The supplement is as meticulously detailed as the rest of the volume, listing such fascinating trivia as chadre kab (Seven of Nine's first meal), 'Kahless and Lukara' (a Klingon opera), and voraxna (a Cardassian poison), as well as all the new characters and species. Appendices include illustrations of starships, cast and crew listings, a historical timeline, and a bibliography. All photographs and illustrations (except for a few historical shots) are in color. The encyclopedia was devised in part to help production staff on the various Star Trek TV series to keep up with the ever-increasing level of detail generated by over 30 years of creative effort. It is an excellent reference volume and, whether you want to settle an argument or write a novel, this book will answer your questions. But beware: the extensive cross-referencing leads to curious time-distortion effects, in which the unwary reader, dipping in to settle a single query, encounters an irresistible urge to browse further, during which hours of normal time can pass in the wink of an eye. --Elizabeth Sourbut

Long overdue, and long awaited COMPLETE encyclopedia of ALL the TREK universe!!!WOW. I had the original in the 1990s, But this one is hardback and contains EVERYTHING TREK!Total 1056 pages! 2 volumes, 3"x9"x12". Weight: 12 lbs.So VERY comprehensive! Put together by the Graphics masters of all the 1990s Star Trek, "the Okudas!"I know it is currently $88, but if you like anything Star Trek at all, or have a loved one that does,GET THIS, you and they will LOVE IT!!!...:)

Describing the book using the selection choices for fiction is difficult to use when it's a fictional reference book.None the less with the existence of the internet and the online "Star Trek Encyclopedia" wiki/a known as "Memory Alpha" which has incredible sources of information, recaps of episodes, and BTS info a book-set like this seems quaint. But it works very, very nicely. To begin with the thing is massive, weighing a combined 13 lbs the two books are 1.125 inches thick a piece inside a box that itself is an eighth of an inch thick all around. The book has that "reference book smell" common to the type of high-quality, treated, paper used in them. Nice, glossy, pages with easily readable text and high-quality images comprised of both screen caps from the episodes/movies, illustrations of the ships, aliens, clothing, technology and such and large reference tables for the planets, species and numerous other things that make up all of the Star Trek universe.An utter trove of information that's just neat to have in a hard, physical, form.The set encompasses all of Star Trek's 50 years of canonical film and television productions through the 2013's Star Trek: Into Darkness. though the book does make some tangential references to 2016's Star Trek: Beyond and the planned series set to be released in the next couple years. The information referencing events in the movies since 2009's "Star Trek" is called out as being part of "The Kelvin Timeline" to distinguish its events and information from the "Prime Timeline" that makes up the bulk of the Star Trek universe for the last 50 years.Massive book, and lots of information. Needed in a world with Wikis and such? Probably not, but there's something about having a physical copy of something that was created by two heroes in the Star Trek fandom, being a huge part of Star Trek since The Next Generation, in Michael and Denise Okuda.In the reviews/ratings on this page mostly mention older versions of the Star Trek Encyclopedia books that came out years ago; hard to relate them at all to this release.

I received my copy of the latest (2016) edition of The Star Trek Encyclopedia today. I own the previous three editions and, after looking over this revised and expanded version, I can make a few observations about how it compares to its predecessors.First of all, you are getting a huge amount of additional material as this edition covers the rest of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager as well as the entirety of Star Trek: Enterprise and the three movies since the prior edition (Nemesis, Star Trek (2009), and Star Trek Into Darkness). There are no articles concerning material from Star Trek Beyond (2016), though, which sort of makes the book already out of date. But I don't mind, both because I'm not crazy about the Kelvin Timeline movies and because a book about an ongoing franchise is bound to have trouble keeping up.As to the material about the Kelvin Timeline, I was surprised to find it integrated into the body of the encyclopedia. The early press release about this edition seemed to suggest that the "Abrams Trek" material would be contained in an Appendix section, separate from the other entries. Instead, Kelvin material is found alongside Prime Timeline stuff, but with separate, parallel articles differentiated by a dot after the entry name. For instance, there are separate entries for "Spock" (prime timeline) and "Spock*" (Kelvin Timeline).The encyclopedia is beautifully laid out inside, although the text is smaller than the prior edition. Illustrations are more numerous and sometimes new. For example, every one of the entries about episodes is accompanied by a picture from the episode. Many of the diagrams of starships have been updated to a CGI-looking image which better captures subtle textures and lighting effects than the older illustrations. The "Remastered" version of The Original Series makes its presence felt as images of ships we never saw in the original version of the show (like Harry Mudd's ship) are illustrated with the remastered series' designs.As to the level of detail in the articles, I noticed that articles about more recent Trek productions (such as Enterprise and the reboot movies) were longer and more in-depth (perhaps irritatingly so) than entries about earlier productions, which are mainly holdovers from the earlier editions. Like the previous editions, you will find appendices (at the end of Volume Two) for Federation/Earth Ships, Ships of the Galaxy, timelines of historical events in the Trek universe and of Star Trek production, Writer and Director Credits for all Trek TV episodes and movies except Beyond and The Animated Series (there are also no encyclopedia entries about TAS, which is not considered canon), and a Cast Appendix. Absent from this edition, however, is the appendix of production personnel, which the previous two editions included. This was slightly disappointing. Also, the appendices showing the different Federation/Earth ships and ships of the galaxy no longer show the illustrations at approximate scale. This is a plus or a minus depending on how you look at it.In sum, this is a great reference for fans of Star Trek. It doesn't have entries for *everything* in Trek (I couldn't find the alien race called the "Harada" mentioned in TNG or "Admiral Fitzpatrick" from "The Trouble with Tribbles."), but it has enough!

The 50th Anniversary edition of the Okudas' magnum opus. The encyclopedia, now expanded to two volumes (each seemingly as thick as the previous editions of the encyclopedia) and supplied in a sturdy slipcase (all of which come in at a hefty 10.5 pounds), continues to be a definitive guide to the Trek franchise--TOS, animated, the films, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT, as well as the reboot films, referred to as the Kelvin timeline. Heavily loaded with B&W and color illustrations, it is informative, intelligently written, and all-around fun. As a reference work, it benefits from the collaborators' connections to the franchise writers, illustrators, and artists of all stripes. As a research tool for the prop maker, writer, modeler or costumer, it has no parallel; it's a must-have. Yes, the price may be off-putting to many fans, but there are, even now, plenty of opportunities to get it below cover price (I pre-ordered and got it for $88 +tax--still plenty of opportunities to save). It's worth every penny.

Love Undocumented: Risking Trust in a Fearful World, by Sarah Quezada

Review

Quezada wrestles with the Christian response to immigration in her probing and personal debut. . . . She calls on the church to educate their congregations and address the uncomfortable question: What will we do if Christlike behavior becomes criminalized? Quezada also examines instances where Christians have responded to the needs of undocumented workers, concentrating on the New Sanctuary Movement and El Refugio, a ministry to detainees and their families. Quezada challenges readers to overcome barriers and welcome strangers, regardless of their immigration status. Publishers Weekly Sarah Quezada is a gifted storyteller who has us laughing one minute, crying the next, and then wincing from punch-in-the-gut analysis. -Leroy Barber, author of Embrace: God's Radical Shalom for a Divided World and executive director, The Voices Project I have been waiting impatiently for Love Undocumented to be published, so I could give it to everyone I know. - D. L. Mayfield, author of Assimilate or Go Home: Notes from a Failed Missionary on Rediscovering Faith A poignant and highly revealing account of a journey into the perplexing, ethically conflicted, heartrending world of undocumented immigrants. - Bob Lupton, author of Toxic Charity and founder, FCS Urban Ministries At a time when division reigns, Sarah Quezada offers an invitation to walk in solidarity and kinship with our immigrant neighbor. --Shannan Martin, author of Falling Free: Rescued from the Life I Always Wanted Sarah Quezada has written a masterpiece here on one of the most urgent issues of our day. Quezada reminds us that we have a God of radical hospitality and liberation and that we worship a Savior who was a displaced Galilean. She reminds us that as we welcome the foreigner we welcome Christ. But perhaps the most important thing Quezada does is make this issue personal. In the end, immigration is not just an issue to debate. Immigrants are people to be loved. Loving the immigrant goes to the core commandment that sums up all the others: Love your neighbor as yourself. Quezada puts a name and face on who our neighbor really is. And she reminds us that perfect love casteth out fear. Shane Claiborne, speaker, author, and activist Immigration is a hot-button topic but one that is rarely addressed in thoughtful, nuanced, dignifying ways by the people who are most affected by this issue. I am incredibly impatient for Love Undocumented to be published, so I can give it to everyone I know. --D. L. Mayfield, author of Assimilate or Go Home In Love Undocumented, Sarah Quezada peels back the curtain on complex immigration issues and those trapped within them. At a time when division reigns, Sarah offers an invitation to walk in solidarity and kinship with our immigrant neighbor. --Shannan Martin, author of Falling Free

What a beautiful labor of love... Sarah Quezada weaves together her love story, scripture, and up-to-date current immigration policy in a way that is educational, thought-provoking, heart-tugging, and entertaining. There are very few books that manage to accomplish all of these goals.Chapter by chapter, the author tells the story of her move to Los Angeles, meeting her now-husband, and discovering he was undocumented. She then tells her story of navigating the immigration system, family relationships, and her own personal evolution from sheltered Southern girl to immigration advocate.As she tells her story, she brings up many well-known stories from the Bible, looking at them through the lens of immigration in some thought-provoking ways, urging Christians to see immigrants through God's eyes.Also woven throughout are many details of the history of immigration policy in the US. It was extremely helpful to read, as both in the American community as well as the immigrant communities, there are many misconceptions and rumors. It is very hard to weed out the truth unless you are a lawyer. Quezada did the research and I feel like I could speak more confidently now about the state of immigration in our country.In addition, Quezada adds anecdotes and stories of real people whose lives have been impacted by immigration, and tells of ministries and movements that seek to help these people.My favorite part of the book was the love story, of course. I loved reading her story, and could identify with her as I have traveled a road with many similarities. It kept the book flowing, rather than being bogged down in information. I actually chose to forego a movie night with my husband to finish it up. What nonfiction book has ever done that?!I will be recommending this book to my family and friends! Now we just need a translation in Spanish. ;-)

This ⁣book was so very beautiful. Sarah's book hit close to home in a lot of ways as we are currently working through my husband's own immigration process. It was eye-opening, helpful, and scary all at the same time. My heart broke as I read the statistics scattered throughout this book. And then it broke some more when I read all the personal stories of heartbreak and pain caused by an outdated and overly-complicated system. ⁣⁣⁣⁣There were two pieces of Sarah’s story that stood out to me the most. One was a statistic she shared about the bed quotas that ICE has to maintain nightly. Which, by the way, is 34,000 - what?! This is regardless of how many people are attempting to enter the country, and ICE is the only law enforcement agency with this sort of quota. ⁣Another concept Sarah shared which is now so vividly laid on my heart and mind was a story about families at the border fence. These families would come together to share a meal or coffee - through a fence - because that’s as close as they were able to get to one another after deportation or immigration issues. ⁣Thank you, Sarah, for sharing such a needed and impactful story!

Wow! I can not recommend this book enough. As a teacher who works with several immigrant families I sadly didn't fully understand their circumstances. It all seemed so complicated. Sarah found a way to educate on historical and current immigration policies while embedding it in her own personal story. Her story had me laughing one minute and in tears the next. It is a beautiful story. I feel that I now have a much better understanding on immigration and the plight of the families I teach. I have already passed it to another teacher and hope she keeps passing it. This is a book for everyone, but especially for anyone who works with immigrant families in any capacity.

Timely, important read. I loved reading the author’s personal story and account of her husband’s journey to citizenship. I’m glad she included truthful and real time information surrounding citizenship, immigration, current laws, and visas. I’ve suggested the book to several friends.

We learn best from experience. And when we don't have a personal experience, we learn best from hearing the stories of others. "Love Undocumented" taught me so much and opened my eyes to a world I never truly understood. Sarah does a fantastic job of interspersing her personal story with facts about immigration and the Christian charge to love our neighbor. While she discusses current immigration policies, she allows the reader space to consider multiple ways the U.S. government might improve its immigration policies to the benefit of all - immigrants and natural-born citizens alike. No matter which political party you align with, this book will take your mind and soul beyond the political realm and into the Christian realm where we are challenged to show love, mercy and grace to every person we meet - regardless of race, gender or country of origin.

This is one of the few bilingual Thai/English books out there and it's a good one. I gave it to a 4 year old in Thailand and she's already (with the help of her mom) learning English. The colorful drawings really help.

For grandson whose mother is Thai. Very informative.

I purchased this book for a friend that I visited in Bangkok. It reminded me of many sights from the city, especially the modes of transportation we used to get around the city. I thought it would be a nice and unique souvenir of her time living in the city.

nice book on Thailand

Katayoun is an awesome instructor and performer and I am happy she decided to share her teaching methods. I wish this book had been available when I started teaching a couple years ago. The workshops I took to help me become a belly dance teacher didn't focus on the skills I needed to help me create lesson plans, correct students, and help them build skills to progress in multilevel classes. I was alone in the woods until I found this wonderful well organized book. Katayoun outlines a complete curriculum to address skills, music and culture, and performance artistry. The book covers: Movement Vocabulary, Thematic Units & Lesson Plans, Build-Up Method of Creating Combinations, Layering Methods of Teaching, Class Structure, Sequence & Pace, Rubrics of Skills & Standards, and Teaching Tips. Her writing style is clear and makes you feel as if she is there supporting you. It is a gem that belongs in every belly dance teacher's library.

I love this book. I have people asking me to teach belly dance but I don't know how to get going. I have found this book very helpful.

Great information for any belly dance teacher

A great source of information. I wish this book would have been available when I started teaching. Katayoun gives plenty of options and information, including a potential music list. Read and reread this book over and over!

Fantastic help for instructor.

Excellent resource! The author is very thorough and systematic & yet she keep the spirit and fun of the art alive!

Clearly written in a flowing easy to read manner. Very useful.

I love this book. It had been a wonderful guide to freshen up my classes and give more structure. I highly recommend it to seasoned teachers to help with classes and a definite must for new teachers. I can't say enough about it and it's author. Her classes and workshops are amazing and her teaching shines through this book.

Racing Savannah (Hundred Oaks), by Miranda Kenneally

From Booklist

Kenneally (Stealing Parker, 2012) again looks at sports through a female lens, this time tackling male-dominated horse racing, in this fourth Hundred Oaks novel. Savannah, her widowed horse-trainer father, and her father’s pregnant girlfriend move to Tennessee’s Cedar Hill, a farm that trains horses for races including the Kentucky Derby. When the teen notices that she is the only one who can control Star, a horse that bucks all riders, she seizes the chance to realize her dream of becoming a jockey. But placing herself in this potentially deadly sport is not Savannah’s only danger. There’s also her instant attraction to Jack Goodwin, the farm owner’s cocky, flirtatious son. Savannah decides she wants more than “friends with benefits” (even if she can’t stop thinking about those skin-to-skin benefits), but wonders if she will always be considered “the help” in Jack’s world of privilege. The author’s knack for weaving forbidden romance, breezy dialogue, and details of this lesser-known sports venue places it in the winner’s circle for reluctant readers and chick-lit fans. Grades 9-12. --Angela Leeper

Review

""Kenneally's equestrian-themed romance is energized by another winning heroine . . . Kenneally's story about considering the importance of one's own happiness should appeal to a wide audience; despite some bumps in the road, there's never any doubt that all will end well."" - Publishers Weekly""Kenneally has established herself as a writer of romances with some interesting complexity along with the swooning, and there's certainly plenty of swooning and steamy pleasure here. Additionally, Savannah herself is genuinely brash and not just saucy, and the Tennessee milieu is vividly evoked." Heartwarming, fun, and with characters that I felt to know and regard almost like old friends, Racing Savannah was a book I read in literally two nights. I had never read a romance that takes place in a horse-racing backdrop, and I found myself enjoying learning the ins and outs of horse racing almost as much as I enjoyed seeing Savannah and Jack's relationship develop as the story progressed. One thing I love about this author is that she portrays people realistically. Most people in the story, just like most people in the real world, are a mixed bag - and yes, there are exceptions like the creepy son of one of the horse owners. Overall though, Racing Savannah succeeds not just with the main protagonists' relationship but also the side characters which Kenneally puts in to enrich the story. Oh, and any story about a badass girl jockey falling in love is just hard not to love...so I'm giving it 5 stars.

~~~Review posted on The Heart of a Book Blogger~~~I decided to reread Racing Savannah, an old favorite, after being in a reading slump for a couple of weeks. I really do love Savannah and her passion for horses and eventually jockeying. And oh man does Jack make me swoon! I love their relationship and the Downton Abbey upstairs-downstairs vibes as Savannah and Jack try to navigate their feelings. This is definitely a must read if you like sport romances!
Racing Savannah was such a great young adult novel. It was the second book in my Miranda Kenneally-binge last weekend and I enjoyed it just as much as the one before. This time it's all about a working class girl and a rich guy – and the girl and her dad just happen to work for the rich guy and his family.Savannah and Jack were both great, relatable characters. I loved them both, but Savannah came out on top as far as I'm concerned. She was wonderful. I loved her drive and her heart. She was wonderful with animals and her relationship with one of the most difficult horses at Jack's family's farm was something truly special... just like Savannah's character. Jack was a good guy in a tough spot. His father had given him a chance to run their horse farm, but he wasn't an easy guy to please. One of his father's strictest rules was "don't date the staff." I think we all know that one was doomed to be broken. Jack wasn't all swoony all the time, but he won me over when it was all said and done.Savannah and Jack had their issues – most coming because of the differences in their backgrounds and upbringing – but I still thought the romance was sweet and had a ton of heart. I loved watching both characters grow as a result of their time together, too. Despite their differences, they made a fantastic pair. It was a bumpy road, but it was also a real one.Racing Savannah takes place a few years after the first few books in the series and there was a fantastic scene a little more than halfway through the book in which we were treated to an AMAZING checkin with some of the earlier characters in the series. It totally melted my heart. I mean, big time cheesy smiles for pages and pages. I get a huge grin on my face just thinking about it! <3I love the Hundred Oaks series. I love how real and honest it is, and how Ms. Kenneally isn't afraid to tackle tough subjects in the books. These books touch on everything from sexism to religion and abortion to the "war" between the classes. They feature characters its impossible not to fall for and a storyline I just can't get enough of. I love the friendships and the romance. They're truly the total package. If you're not reading this series, you should be.
Honestly, my initial reaction upon writing this review for Racing Savannah is to want to kick myself in the butt for not reading this one when it released last year. I liked Catching Jordan, Kenneally’s debut novel, but my love for her series was cemented with Stealing Parker and fortified by Things I Can’t Forget. So, knowing I really liked her writing, I should have seized the opportunity and read Racing Savannah when it was in my hands months ago.Racing Savannah is considered another companion novel in the Hundred Oaks series. But really, it feels more like a new beginning, as readers are introduced to a new generation of characters to fall in love with. I love the familiarity of the community, but also enjoy the newness offered by these fun new people!But first, let’s focus on the one element that I loved about this book – the horses! I’ve been obsessed with the idea of horses and horseback riding since I was a little girl. (Relevant sidebar: I was a major fan of the Saddle Club books. Holler if you were too.) Though I’ve only really been riding a couple of times, it’s always been a really fun experience that I want to repeat!Ahem, okay, back to reviewing now.The story still evokes the Kenneally books of the past, focusing heavily on one character’s personal journey, and her relationships – familial, friendly & romantic. Savannah is our narrator – and she’s a really likable one, too! She’s really a typical teenager, albeit one with a strong interest in horses. Her struggles to give herself the best possible chance at a future (especially after recognizing her father’s financial difficulties), her genuine love for horses (from riding them to caring for them) and her willingness to do things for the people she cared about really won her major points with me. I liked that she made the best of her situation, and also happened to be pretty smart and downright funny at times.As mentioned, many of Savannah’s relationships become important parts of this novel. She is very close to her father, who is afraid to lose Savannah after losing his wife. She starts out not really caring about her stepmother-to-be, but still willing to do anything for her and the baby she’s carrying. She becomes friends with Rory, a groom at the stables her father works at (and little brother to a guy named Will *winks*) and Vanessa, a surprisingly down-to-earth rich girl. She also has a pretty good repartee with the stable hands, grooms and exercise trainers, and even with the family that owns the stables.And then there’s Jack. He is a rich boy, determined to prove to his father that he can capably manage their family business – their stables + horses. Jack’s known nothing but privilege all his life, but it’s pretty endearing to see how dedicated he is to making sure he handles business well. There were times when I wanted to tear his eyes out for the things he said or the way he acted, but there were also times that I wanted to hug him. In the end, he turns out to be a guy worth rooting for, that’s for sure.There are a few things that really surprised me about Racing Savannah – and again, in the best way:Sex: I was very pleasantly surprised to see that Kenneally didn’t shy away from things of a sexual nature. The reality is that many teenagers are sexually active – and that’s their choice to make. I really appreciated that Kenneally treated it as a part of regular life; it’s an excellent attitude to have.Social class: This is obviously one of the bigger issues in this novel, as Jack is rich and Savannah is, well, not-so-rich. Seeing how their realities, despite an overlap when it came to working with horses, were so different was pretty startling. I sometimes forget that extremes like this do exist, and I think Kenneally did admirably in painting a picture that seemed pretty unbiased (and didn’t attack one class for particular qualities).College & the future: One of the things many teens struggle to figure out is what they want for their future, and what they’ll be doing for the rest of their lives. Kenneally depicts two situations here. Jack is set to run the family business, and wants to. Savannah assumes she’ll go straight from high school to working around horses. It’s interesting to see how both situations play out for them, especially Savannah’s, and I really think it felt realistic.Racing Savannah was the perfect read to get back in the saddle with the Kenneally series. (See what I did there?) Really, it’s got the signature charm of the first three in the series, due to an irresistible combination of characters (including appearances of all of my old favorites) + setting + story. It was a stellar addition to the Hundred Oaks collection, and a very solid contemporary read all in all.
