Positive: The book is very in depth and detailed. It gives specific rulings and interpretations. Some may find the rulings to be annoying, but its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.Positive: They not only give the right answer, but also say why the wrong answers are wrong. Most books say the right answer and their explanation for the wrong answer is "please refer to the above explanation", which doesn't help sometimes.Positive: There are a lot of things that repeat. Some may find this to be negative, but reading it over and over allows it to stick.Negative: Needs information I should definitely know in bold and it needs mnemonics.

Great analysis of material and concepts. MCQ test bank and TBS/simulations excellent. This is a must have reference book for studying.

Love the indept questions, better than the Becker questions.!

I plan to take a CPA exam with in the next two months and bought the wiley CPA exam review 2011,Auditing and Attestation. I started studing the book for about a month and I found it very helpfufl. It is very relevant, detailed and with sufficinet excercises. The layout of the book and its organisation are really interesting. The first four chapters are with full of important messages and helpffull. I am sure, with the help the book, I could pass the exam successffully.

Wiley helped me pass the CPA without paying hundreds of dollars! Wiley ownZ, I would go with Wiley if I were you!

I may be able to provide a better review if this thing helps me pass this portion of the CPA exam! It does provide some really good information at the front, such as study techniques. It seems very comprehensive. However, I can tell already that I'm going to get really annoyed with the extremely thin paper on which this is printed. There is absolutely no way to highlight text. While this keeps the approximately 700 pages much lighter, I don't think it's very user friendly.

Hi, I run a CPA exam preparation website and I would like to share with you my thoughts on the pros and cons on this latest AUD exam prep book from Wiley.PROS1. Comprehensive and well-writtenConsidering the authors need to squeeze everything on audit in one book, I think this book is organized and well written. The content is divided into 8 modules covering engagement planning, internal control, risk assessment, reporting, audit sampling, various auditing standards and a supplement on related IT topics. Each module is around 40-80 pages with > 750 multiple choice questions. More importantly, this 2011 version includes 42 simulations in the new format (i.e. shorter but more sims covering more topics)The first 4 chapters are helpful for first-timers as the authors explain the grading, format and strategies on how to pass the exam. It also includes (in the appendix) actual questions released by AICPA together with detailed explanation by the two experienced authors.2. Organized In New 2011 Exam FormatThe change in AUD is less than FAR but it does have additional topics, mostly on international auditing standards. So it's worthwhile to get the latest review book even if you are tight in budget. This AUD prep book is organized in accordance with the latest AICPA content outline so the questions will likely be similar to the ones in actual exam.3. Great Value-For-MoneyThis is one of the most affordable CPA review materials you can find anywhere. For many years, this Wiley series is the best-selling CPA review books on Amazon (by the way, get this here instead of bookstore or Wiley's website -- definitely cheaper)4. Competitors Are Using Wiley As SupplementsA few CPA exam review courses such as Roger CPA Review and Yaeger CPA Review use Wiley's books and CDs to complement their lectures. In fact, Yaeger's DVD course spend a lot of time going through Wiley's MC questions as a way to clarify the accounting concepts.CONS1. Too comprehensive?I guess the flip side of being very comprehensive is that it can be overwhelming -- While it is not as big a problem for AUD (because this particular subject tends to be wordy and repetitive anyway), it's still a big and scary book packed with small prints. But for me at least the book will be more useful if there are mnemonics to help retain the materials, given auditing requires lots of memorization. I believe the lecture notes in some other review courses do a better job in this regard.2. Not An Integrated ApproachIf you like this Wiley CPA review book, I strongly encourage you to get the Wiley CPA Exam Review 2011 Test Bank CD , Auditing and Attestation for the practice questions in computerized format. However, the Wiley book + software combo is still far from the "guided review course" with lectures and a channel for you to ask a question or clarify a concept. In my opinion, the guided reviews, be it a live class or a self-study DVD, is a more integrated and thus better approach.3. Poor Touch and FeelSince you are considering purchasing the book online without physically flipping through the book, I'd like to bring this to your attention. All books in this Wiley series are printed on thin newspaper print, which may not sound like a big deal but is surprisingly a common compliant from my readers. Also, the questions are often straddled between pages and you have to flip back and forth to read the answer. This can be quite annoying when you are tired and running out of study time.CONCLUSIONIf you are a good accounting student, capable of intensive self-study for at least several months, and that you have someone to turn to if you have questions, then this Wiley AUD exam prep book (together with the other 3 books in this series) can be an excellent choice. In fact, many candidates pass the exam with these books alone. However, I do encourage you to take advantage of Amazon's feature to "look inside" the book and see if you are fine with the condensed text, and seriously evaluate whether you have the dedication and discipline to tackle the exam pretty much on your own.If you aren't sure, you may want to check out the other guided review courses; if the answer is yes, then click the buy button and start your CPA journey right away!Best of luck to your exam! Stephanie

I have used this and the Regulation book in the series. The answer explanations in this book are much less valuable than those in the REG book. Most of the explanations simply refer the the auditing standards by section number. Others are the equivalent of, "The other answers are incorrect because that's not how it's done." In other words, there are almost no interpretations or simplifications of the standards to aid learning, as compared to the REG book. The book encourages you to review the actual text of the PCAOB and AICPA standards numerous times, and I agree. Your major focus of study should be the standards themselves rather than this book. The only value added from this book are the practice questions. My advice is to study the auditing standards, use the AICPA's free practice software, and possibly use this book for supplemental practice only.

The death of Franklin Roosevelt as World War Two entered its final stages thrust a little known Vice-President onto the world stage. Coarse where Roosevelt was refined, usually described by a skeptical press as a "failed haberdasher" and known for building a political career with the help of the Kansas City Democratic machine led by corrupt party boss Tom Pendergast (and later sarcastically hailed as "the senator from Pendergast"), little was expected from a Truman presidency as he assumed office with the war still raging on two fronts. Some of the most momentous decisions of the twentieth century were forced upon this unprepossessing man with a reputation for plain speaking and salty language. But history has a habit of producing great leaders during difficult days (not much was expected from President Abraham Lincoln either during equally dangerous times a century earlier).General Douglas MacArthur (like Lincoln's general George B. McClellan) was glamorous, willful, egotistical, a darling of the press and feverishly ambitious with political aspirations that were vast. Once described by an angry Roosevelt as "the most dangerous man in America", there was little that MacArthur needed to do in order to find and monopolize the spotlight. During their tense personal meetings, MacArthur's disrespect for Truman was galling. Yet somehow the notoriously feisty president managed to hold his temper when dealing with the general. With the new war in Korea becoming more dangerous by the hour and his leadership questioned from all corners, President Truman committed a serious slip-of-the-tongue when asked by a reporter about the possible use of atomic weapons in response to China's shocking entry into the war, Truman replied somewhat angrily that "the military commander in the field will have charge of the use of the weapons, as he always has." This suggested that General MacArthur, commander of the American and U.N. forces in the Korean theater, had his finger on the nuclear button and the will and temperment to push it.This was certainly NOT what the president wished to convey.Truman's quick correction did little to minimize the damage and the political fall-out was fierce. It created the illusion of two distinct and mutually exclusive paths to "victory" in this war, with the vision of an unpopular president pitted against that of the man who had single-handedly (or so he seemed to claim) won the war against Japan in the Pacific theater of operations. Truman appeared clueless to a war-weary public while General MacArthur appeared fearless and bold, unafraid of unleashing the nuclear genie despite Russia's recent entry into the "nuclear club." The two men soon clashed, spurred on by an American news media whose political agendas were as entrenched as today and just as noxious. The rise of Senator Joe McCarthy and his relentless anti-communist crusade. the ubiquitous House Un-American Activities Committee, staffed by a rising star in the Republican firmament Richard Nixon, who had recently broken the Alger Hiss spy case and relished the increasing acclaim, Soviet actions in blockading Berlin and threatening the freedom and safety of a nervous Europe, the testing of increasingly powerful and horrifying nuclear weapons and the heavy losses in Korea, all of these events served as a poisonous backdrop to the clash of wills between an obstinate and feisty President Truman and a supremely self-confident and narcissistic General MacArthur. The General vs.The President is exhaustive in detailing these events with a clear but unavoidable bias towards the president. History has been much kinder to Truman, who is generally considered to have been a great president (as discussed in David McCullough's masterful biography Truman). The flaws in General MacArthur's personality have been revealed and magnified over time but author H. W. Brands maintains as much fairness as is possible under the circumstances. The story of the struggle between these two men is riveting and fascinating with its obvious ramifications for today. The modern political world was born during this era and The General vs. The President does an exemplary job in telling the story. It often reads more like a political thriller as it delves into what can only be described as "high stakes poker" with its frequent raising of the stakes, bluffing and savage endgame with its winners and losers. The General vs. The President is compelling history that I often found difficult to put down. If you're interested in the Cold War era, the Korean War and the various political forces and actors engaged in a life-and-death-struggle for military and political supremacy, this is an indispensable book. An excellent history book and strongly recommended.

Great read! I couldn't put this one down. Read it in about four days, which is super fast for me! This book is is a thorough history of the first ten months of the Korean War & Truman's eventual firing of General Douglas MacArthur. It's hard for Americans born after WWII who live in a 24 hour news cycle, to understand just how people who lived during WWII viewed popular Generals like Eisenhower or MacArthur. These were the guys who had won WWII (at least for the Americans). They were almost godlike figures. Not only had MacArthur emerged as one of the most celebrated Americans of WWII, but his record in occupied Japan and the changes he made in that country were only slightly less Olympian. Couple these two achievements with his brilliant move at Inchon and you have (whatever your opinion of him), one of the greatest military figures in American history. And then it all unraveled. The Chinese enter in to the War & everything changes. MacArthur an advocate for total war, increasingly encourages not only bombing Communist China, but even the Soviet Union. He advocates "seeding" atomic material in a chain across Communist supply lines in North Korea. The most interesting side of this story to me was the timidity of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, themselves giants of WWII. Men like Omar Bradley, J. Lawton Collins, Admiral Radford, and former Secretary of state George C. Marshall, who hesitated to confront MacArthur until they finally had no choice. The other interesting aspect of the book was it's revelation of just how vulnerable the American military was in 1950.Not to mention most of the American peoples obliviousness to the fact that by mid 1951, the American armed services, which had swept all before it just 5 years beforewas dangerously over stretched in Korea, & the JCS were aware of this fact. The tension builds & the President & JCS finally have to make a decision.Very good read! My only problem with this book was the author's seemingly more sympathetic view to Truman (however it's hard not to be).

I asked a few of my friends what they knew about Truman and MacArthur in the Korean War. All are well read in history; they all had an answer. And for most it was "MacArthur wanted to use nuclear weapons against China," (or North Korea, or Russia), "and Truman wasn't willing to use the bomb, so he had to fire MacArthur." And while there's a bit of truth to each part of their answers, that's not really how it all played out. And I think all of them would love to read "The General vs. the President".This is a wonderful work of history. I've read biographies of both MacArthur and Truman, but this book brought both of them to life in a fresh way, especially with respect to their relationships with others. The complex narrative is laid our with great clarity, including both military and political maneuvers. I particularly appreciated the account of MacArthur's Congressional hearings, and the striking contrast between the public posturing and the devastating closed sessions. In a way, both men are diminished by this history. Truman's reputation has been on the rise in recent years, because of his no-nonsense pragmatism, but as Brands shows clearly, Truman was in over his head, and he made careless mistakes. MacArthur did wonders in Japan, particularly in the way he transformed its politics, but his naivety about global geopolitics seems breathtaking from our perspective.Highly recommended.

Changed my life, literally. I have been impatiently waiting for this book ever since I was 15. Im 20 now, and it has influenced my life in so many ways its hard to count. You may think its just another silly YA book; But I’m telling you, this series is truly magical. At the end, I didn’t know if I was crying because of the ending of the story, or the ending of this chapter of my life. Absolutely stunning; Colleen, you have exceeded my expectations once again. Thank you for the inspiration and influence.

I loved the tigers curse series and I think it should have ended after book 4. This book was long and slow. I felt cheated as I read it because it revisited all the same places/adventures from the previous book and took away some of the mystery and magic of the other books for me. If you want to read a story that basically summerizes all the previous books but takes away what made those adventures and discoveries special then read this book. There were only a few new adventures and they seemed like side stories when I wish they had taken more of a lead. The love story between kishan and Durga felt slow and painfully circular. There is a dark undertone from durga's past. Her struggle to overcome this felt very superficial and internal. Since we only read from kishan's perspective, we aren't able to take this journey with her through how she overcame her past. The ending of the story seemed to drag on as well. For how much I liked the previous 4 books, I wish I didn't read this one.

After six years of waiting, we finally get the conclusion to Colleen Houck's Tiger Saga! Yes, the story may have seemed over with Tiger's Destiny, but that was Kelsey and Ren's chapter, there was still one more tiger who needed to have his story finished, and naturally, that tiger was our beloved Kishan and Tiger's Dream is his story. The book takes place in the events immediately after Kishan agrees to be the goddess, Durga's tiger. A young woman also known as Anamika. Kishan is to be her defender, her protector for all time. But poor Kishan still mourns his loss of Kelsey. He was in love and gave up his own happiness so that his brother could live happily ever after with the girl they both loved. The story truly begins when an old friend comes along and tells Kishan that he must save Kelsey, that her very life was in danger, and naturally Kishan will do anything to save the girl that he still loves. What he didn't expect was that he was to accomplish a set of multiple tasks, ones in which he will have to travel back in time to make sure they happen they way they are supposed to. Even more concerning is that he will need Ana's help as well. And so the two begin their audacious task of going back to key moments in the past and seeing to it that things play out the way they should. Naturally, most of these key moments are ones we've already witnessed in the series. It was kind of fun being able to revisit so many wonderful, dire, scary and exhilarating moments! It was definitely a proper sendoff to The Tiger Saga being able to reminiscent over such memorable moments--memorable in the sense that you have such memories! Lol! Since I haven't read this series in over 6 years, starting it just as it was "wrapping up", I knew there wouldn't be enough time for a re-read. Luckily, one isn't really necessary. Though if you have the time, I think it would interesting to be able to read them all back to back and then re-experience those moments that appear in Tiger's Dream with a new eye. There were moments that Kishan and Ana had to interact more than you would think and it was just kind of eye-opening in a way. It makes me wonder if Colleen truly gave us those hidden moments to begin with. Since this book was a long time coming, I feel like she did. I'm going on faith with that one!The relationship between Kishan and Ana was an interesting one. It was meant to be a business relationship of sorts. Kishan never thought that something could form between him and Ana, but he should've known better. I will say it was a gradual process too and I really enjoyed that aspect! It seems as one is falling for the other, the other isn't realizing what's happening or does and is too ticked off at them to want to encourage the feelings. You can imagine who the latter applied to the most! But I must say, it was done rather well. There were stolen moments when Kishan and Ana were both getting along that were tantalizingly sweet, though their bickering was also enjoyable to say the least!Again, I will mention I haven't read the first four books in years, but I do recall they were of a slower pace, that will hold true here once again. With 800+ pages, a lot is going to happen, but it takes time to get to those action building moments. There's a great deal of character development going and relationship building as well put into place. Plus a rather large section that detailed Ana's past life. If you enjoy good storytellnig and were a fan of the first four books, you know what you're getting into and the payoff you'll have by the end. It is definitely something to consider when starting this series that though the action may be slow to come, there's something magical happening along the way.One thing that also made this one a little hard to read was the whole time traveling aspect. Time traveling is dicey business in general. How you execute the actual act, the rules, and sometimes even the places you go to. Again, since I can't remember the books very well, I am not positive on the order of events either. Sometimes it felt like the events that Kishan and Ana had to go back to were randomly chosen, but then once things were hashed out towards the end of their "list" I wondered if it wasn't, with one or two exceptions. I wonder if the list was truly chronological. It's a minor thing really, but it did make me wonder. I curse my sodden memory for this! The ending...oh god you guys...this is the end! While things were more open-ended and you can imagine the happy lives that Kelsey and Ren would lead and the probably adventures Kishan would have with Ana...you don't get that here because it's the end! You know where all the characters are at and a part of me is torn by it! I enjoyed it, yet my heart aches that it's all over! There's still just a glimmer of hope at the end though, that things aren't really over, as I mentioned there was a great deal of time traveling, so it's like you could just go back and relive those moments. That's a more thoughtful way of looking at it rather than it's over, but still, I know it's over and my heart is sadden by this. But my, what a magical and heartfelt journey it was!Overall Rating 4.5/5 stars

I was scared and excited for this 5th book because sometimes when an author releases another book so long after the series ended the characters don't feel like themselves anymore or the story doesn't feel the same. Luckily with tigers dream, this wasn't the case. I was sucked back into kishan, ren,and Kelseys story again. Colleen houck didn't lose sight of these 3 or their story and for that I'm so thankful. Even though it's an 814 page book it didn't feel like it because it read so quickly. I finished it within a week and now I'm sad it's over.

Colleen Houck's series, Tiger's Curse, is my all time favorite series. It easily makes me laugh, cry, nervous, squeal, and get frustrated (because Kelsey oh man), Everytime I reread the books. It feels so so good to have this final book in my possession. Its the biggest book of them all having roughly 800 pages. I punched it Time Warp style (haha see what I did there) through the pages within the first week. I have 30 ish pages left and I'm so sad. It's such a wonderful book! This book will be the perfect conclusion you were hoping for. I love the perspective of this last book as well. (My thoughts are very speratic... I just love this book series with all of my being). It's what's inspired many drawings of mine, leading me to win a scholarship for art school. It has changed my life in the most positive way. A great read!! Go get em tiger!!

I have not been this moved by a book in a long time! What wonderful ending for an incredible series! Prince Sohan Kishan Rajaram, you are loved and remembered.

I put this book off for a while. Kishsan is not one of my favorite characters. I thought him opportunistic, selfish and self absorbed. I didn't want to invest any more time than I had to in him. I found him to be the same pitiful selfish man. He was sulking over his situation and being stuck with Anamika. But as the story went on I was drawn to him. He was growing in character and as a man. Anamika started out petulant and distant. But as the story went on she became a strong caring woman. I grew to love their banter. As for the story, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the revelations. The purpose of the previous books is in a gray area. You get to relive each task but through the eyes of Kishan, Anamika and Kadam. It was enlightening. The end was both satisfying and sad. This was a great series and hate it to come to an end. Ren is still my favorite.
