I have used the book constantly for the past six months. It's a good reference especially since Kathy Biggs lives locally (one of the photographers, Chris Healvilin, and I have met several times at the same pond), and that is the best thing about the book insofar as most of the dragonflies are "commoner" to us Northern Californians. It's odd that dragonflies and damselfies can often be found in very small locations.For example, Dennis Paulson's "Dragonflies and Damselflies of the West" is a bit of a waste if you're never going to leave California. "The West" it turns out is 85 percent outside of California. In fact, much of the territory covered would be from Texas to the Mississippi.I've just ordered the newer edition of Kathy's book because it's still the quickest and best reference for novices like me. I'm very much at the red, blue, black, and bronze stage of classification.The book is 4Â½ x 5Â½ inches, a bit large for the average pocket. I'm sure this was done to allow for larger photographs which can be used for identification. However, since my pond hopping is done within walking distance of my home, and I don't have a camera bag, I don't usually use it until I come home and download my photos. However, that's not all that bad: I can't see the nuances between a Flame Skimmer and Cardinal in the field (or muck if you prefer) the way these pros can.One last point in favor of the book is that damselflies are covered in the book even though they're not in the title. The reason has been explained to me, but reiterating would make this a much longer review when what I really want to reiterate is that this is the best novice guide to damselflies and dragonflies of California.

I bought the 1st edition of this book when it came out years ago, and corresponded with Kathy, and I was so appreciative of her efforts. And now this second edition is such an improvement over what I thought then was just about perfect. The photos in this edition are orders of magnitude sharper and more beautiful, and just sitting down and reading this compact jewel makes me feel like I'm viewing a gorgeous work of art!I have other dragonfly books, including two on California/West Coast dragonflies, but this particular book is the one I've ordered extra copies of. For $9.95, assuming you live in California (or nearby?), this will serve you extraordinarily well, both as a work of dragonfly art & wonderment, and as a handy and accurate field guide when you go for a hike or other outdoor exploration.In fact, this book makes me very much want to put a fountain or small pond or other water feature, on our property here in northern California.

Not complete but I've not yet photographed a dragonfly or damsel fly in California that's not in it. Excellent photos and helpful text and index. Fairly easy to use, gets easier as you learn the different dragonfly groups.Convenient pocket size to fit in a pocket and well constructed with plastic coated pages for use out in the field, even during rain.

Amazing little book which I found very useful on my fall trip to Yosemite. Hoping to go again next year.

I love to photograph insects, and obviously dragonflies and damselflies are common subjects. Identifying them, however, was often a problem. Using this beautifully illustrated book has been a big help in this regard. Obviously, there's more there too, but this contains more species than most and the compact size appeals as well.

This book is beautiful. The glossy color photos are clear and gorgeous. It's introductory information is perfect for beginners like me. I'm looking forward to getting better acquainted with these amazing insects. I had no idea there were so many!

I am in my senior years and I have been reading more books about energy healing systems. The last 12 years I have formally studied and read countless books on Tai Chi, Qigong, Yoga, Japanese Shiatsu, Reiki and Jin Shin Do.I recently read another book (Divine Healing Hands) by this author and found it somewhat interesting. I saw this 283 page hardcover volume (Soul Healing Miracles: Ancient and new sacred wisdom by Dr. & Master Zhi Gang Sha) on Amazon for a bargain price and decided to purchase it. Like all Master Shaâ€™s healing series this one follows the same basic format. This includes numerous prayer and chanting procedures to follow in order to heal yourself and others on a wide range of medical and esoteric issues.Like his other books, in order to really grasp this material requires serious study and practice of the prayer and chanting techniques explained in his books. In fact, much of the material is very complex and probably requires personal hands on approach in a class room setting to fully understand the procedures.Some of the material covered in this book includes: Ancient and new sacred wisdom, knowledge and practical techniques for healing, divine and Tao Healing, sacred source Jin Dan meditation for healing, rejuvenation, prolonging life, and transforming relationships, finances, and every aspect of life. Other material includes: the source sacred mantras, for healing the spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical bodies.Unfortunately, I must emphasize this fact concerning this healing system. There are so many complex details and procedures to follow in each chapter, that it makes this healing system one of the least practical methods I have ever read and studied in all the years I have been interested in this subject.The author is a prolific writer and has written numerous books on his healing method and he has thousands of loyal followers; however, in my humble opinion his healing techniques are too complex for the average person seeking a simple and easy to use healing method. If you are into long sessions of numerous chanting mantras and meditation this kind of system may appeal to you, but for those seeking a practical and simple healing method should check out other systems of energy healing. In my personal research into numerous energy healing systems learning this complex mystical energy system would take many years of serious study to actually master.Rating: 3 Stars. (Author: Chair/Seated Tai Chi, Qigong, and Yoga for seniors and the physically challenged).

This book is truly a healing treasure, a comforting friend, and a wise guide all in one. I have used it on many occasions for self-healing and healing others. It always amazes me.The calligraphies in this book are beautiful and powerful healers. I have had great results for physical, mental and emotional healing using the calligraphies. Here are just a couple of examples:Physical pain: I had a nagging backache, just when we were getting ready to go to a friend's place for dinner. I lay face down and placed the book on my back, opened to one of the calligraphy pages. I felt warmth radiating, and in 30 minutes my backache had disappeared. It felt pain free all night and even the next day.Mental/emotional: I was going through some anxiety. I opened the book to a calligraphy page, and placed it on my forehead. The racing thoughts started to quiet down, replaced by a feeling of calm. In less than half an hour, the book had calmed my anxiety which would usually have gone on for a couple of days.I've tried a few of the practices and meditations in this book. They felt very profound. I have yet to try all the practices; I haven't felt the need to, since the few that I have tried are so helpful. I'm sure there's Divine timing involved, and I'll come across the practices when I need them. This is what I mean by 'a comforting friend.' I'm getting to know this book gradually like getting to know a new friend.Having practiced some Yogic meditations, I found the Tao-based practices in this book fascinating. They're similar and yet different; you just need to try them and feel for yourself.There are also permanent healing blessings and downloads in this book. I've received some of them (all you do is read the page and take a quiet moment to receive the download). Even without these, I already find the book pretty amazing. These downloads just take it beyond!All in all, I find this book a valuable companion on my healing and spiritual journey. I highly recommend this book to spiritual seekers, or anyone interested in healing their life!

I've been to Memphis, Tennessee many times. So when Peter Ash made his way there, I knew the story would be good. Memphis is a place with a long history, much of it tragic. The description of white suburbs and black poverty, framed by music and old grandeur is exactly what I saw.The story pits Peter, and of course Lewis, against the cruelty that comes of both poverty and racism. It's powerful, exciting, and tragic. I raced through the book, anxious to see what came next.The book is satisfying. Good does come out ahead. I don't know about other people, but I need stories like this. I need heroes like Peter and Lewis to keep me fighting the good fight. Our world is full of ugly. To read about good men winning against the ugly helps me mentally.I can't be them, and frankly wouldn't want to be. But I can fight the ugly in my own way, feeling like Peter and Lewis have my back. At least inside my head.

I liked the story about the boys who robbed the jewelry store. I could sympathize with then. Plus they did not kill anyone. I understood Peter's actions with the drug dealers. The way they dealt with the villains, however, was where they lost me. Participating in a car chase that left 9 dead and others injured when they could have just waited for the brothers at the barn made them as guilty of the crimes as the brothers. The fact that Peter realized what was happening and did not disengage was out of character with the person he had been in previous books,

I'm a big fan of the Peter Ash character, and I loved the first three books in this series so much that I pre-ordered "Tear It Down" and started reading it as soon as it arrived.The first half of the book is classic Nick Petrie, with refined characters and a carefully constructed plot. Then things started falling apart, and the author deviated completely from all that has made his previous novels so wonderful. As things devolved to overkill (literally) and impossible situations, I honestly couldn't wait to get the book over with. What a disappointment!If you haven't read Nick Petrie, buy one of his other books, not this one. If you're Nick Petrie, go back to being yourself! You don't need to write this way to sell books!

Tear It Down was a thrilling and action-packed read with a plot that took a few unexpected turns along the way.Peter Ash is getting reckless after months of downtime recovering from a leg injury, so June Cassidy sends him to help out her friend Wanda who has received a few threats recently. But when Peter arrives in Memphis, itâ€™s clear the situation has escalated after he finds that someone drove a dump truck into the front of Wandaâ€™s house. Unable to figure out the reasoning behind the threats, Peter sets out to fix Wandaâ€™s house only to have his truck stolen while heâ€™s getting gas. When Peter finds out the kid is in more trouble than he realizes, Peter aims to help him which puts Peter on the wrong side of some local gangsters. With problems piling up left and right, Peter knows he needs to get to the bottom of things before someone ends up dead.The plot following who was threatening Wanda was intriguing because as far as Wanda was concerned, she didnâ€™t have any enemies. I was surprised when we finally found out the reason for the threats as it definitely wasnâ€™t what I was expecting. Eliâ€™s plot was much more interesting to me and I was eager to learn more about the boy and how he ended up where he did. Of the two plots I enjoyed Eliâ€™s plotline more than Wandaâ€™s although they were both interesting. One thing that surprised me was the two plots never intertwined which is unusual when there are two central storylines in a book. I did like how both of them turned out though and I think the author wrapped everything up pretty well. I found there were more surprises in Eliâ€™s plot which is why I ultimately enjoyed it a bit more than Wandaâ€™s.Peterâ€™s restlessness was not surprising to me having read the first three books in this series. Heâ€™s definitely a man whoâ€™s gotten used to being on the move, but the life he has (and the life he wants) with June means he canâ€™t wander about anymore. I was happy to learn that Peter was still in therapy making progress on dealing with his claustrophobia and the â€œwhite staticâ€ that accompanies it. Itâ€™s a condition he knows will never fully go away, but I liked that he wanted to work on it so he could have a life with June.As to the side characters, I was very happy to see the return of my favorite character in the series, Lewis. I love Lewis and Peterâ€™s friendship and how much theyâ€™ve come to trust one another since their first meeting. Much of Lewisâ€™ past is still a mystery although we do get a bit of background on him in this book. June continues to be a fantastic lady and I really enjoy her and Peterâ€™s relationship. The two complement each other very well and I like how much they understand each other.Overall Tear It Down and the rest of the Peter Ash series are fantastic reads that are perfect for when youâ€™re looking for action heavy thrillers. I definitely recommend this series if youâ€™re a fan of characters similar to Jack Reacher.

Unbelievable book and hard to put down. Sure hope this series continues. Peter Ash is one of the best characters in this genre. The storyline in this book was very realistic. Fast paced and action packed. Lewis returns again to help his friend. New characters in this one to both cheer for and hate.

My inner director takes the suggestions of the writer into consideration, but ultimately does her own thing. For example, August Strindberg, in his prologue to Miss Julie, seems to think I should portray the title character as the poster-child of all things wrong with the fairer sex. I'm sorry, Mr. Strindberg, but in my production, the troubled, naive heiress comes across as a multi-faceted individual with deeply personal issues, not some broad brush-stroke symbol meant to stand in for all womankind. The twisted, ever-reversing relationship between Julie and her father's footman Jean is compelling in its own right, but I never for a moment imagined it as shorthand for ALL relationships between men and women everywhere. Because I believe that's what you intended, from your prologue? No matter. Hollywood writers know that once a script is written, it's out your hands for the director to do as she sees fit.I suppose I should spare a few words for the other plays (though if you just read one, make it Miss Julie). Strindberg likes to write from life, and the man of troubled marriages makes the troubled marriage and the wars of Mars and Venus a main focus of his work. He also likes the "vampire" theme--in this case, a character who sucks joy and energy from the people around him. The surreal "A Dream Play" serves as a reprieve from the usual bleak, claustrophobic atmosphere and shows instead god Indra's daughter descending to earth to learn about human misery. Despite this, I found it quite playful and even comical at times, what with the mystery of the locked door, the verbal sparring of the four Deans of knowledge, and the Lawyer who argues that one can never be happy, because one is always hungover and guilt-ridden the morning after.

August Strindberg (1849-1912) was born in Stockholm to a shipping clerk and a maid. He was a complex and tortured genius excelling in poetry, essay and novel writing as well as painting. Strindberg lives in literature most importantly through his plays. All of the action takes place on the estate of Miss Julie on Midsummer s Eve night. The play explores the theme of class and the war between the sexes. Miss Julie is a dark tragedy.The Dance of Death portrays a marital couple who hate and love each other at the same time. The play foreshadows such later works as Edward Albee s Who';s Afraid of Virginia Woolf as it shows an old married couple in conflict.A Dream Play-An expressionistic work of one act in which various voices speak in poetry and prose. Strindberg s third wife a famous actress starred in the first production.The Ghost Sonata-A student has his strings pulled by old Hummel a personification of the Devil. The play is reminiscent of Faust by Marlowe and Goethe. I like the naturalistic plays much better than the expressionistic dramas. Strindberg s major themes are":a. An assertion of male power over the weaker female.b. The belief in the survival of the strongest in a cold and indifferent universe . Social Darwinism run rampant!c. The struggle between the classes of societyd. Human life in the madhouse of the world. Strindberg is a dark artist who will not be to everyone s liking. The world is a cruel place and humanity is trapped in its mortality. Strindberg writes with passion and many of the plays emerge from the situation of his own life situation. His preface to the play Miss Julie is included in this edition and is well worth reading.

Wow! I don't know where to start. I got the news from my cardiologist that I needed to meet with his "Heart Team" because my heart is failing and has changed a lot in the past few years. I knew my symptoms weren't normal but I really wanted to hear I was out of shape. Not that my heart was failing. Within a few hours of my diagnosis I wanted more information but I wanted to hear it from a patient. Someone with true life experience was what I was searching for. I did a search online and found Lynne and Lauren's book. I bought the Kindle version and started reading that night. Then I just had to have the paperback. I'm old fashioned, I love books and wanted a copy to take with me to the hospital in the future because I could feel the strength and hope in the text after the first few pages.I have 5 kids at home and read only when they were in bed so I took my time but putting it down was difficult. I wanted to know what the next journal writing was going to say! As a mom and a mom of a son with a heart condition and an ICD and Pacemaker, I connected with Lynne instantly. Her strength, raw emotion and honesty throughout the book was amazing. As a woman with a heart condition, ICD/Pacemaker and now looking at a heart transplant, I connect with Lauren, too. Her struggles outweigh mine x10 but her strength, honesty and determination give me hope. This book is real! It's emotional. It shows that life sucks and you have to take each day as it comes. You have to live in the moments and enjoy every good thing. I will take this book with me. I plan on highlighting (in my good ol' paperback) each of the triumphs in Lauren's journey and her smiles. I am beyond encouraged by this book!I recommend this book to anyone that needs encouragement to fight and stay strong through ANY life struggle. Heart condition or not, this is a beautifully written story of real life and I am so thankful I found it. Now I am getting a copy for my mom. :)

I personally know Lauren and she is an amazing and kind individual. When I found out her mom was writing this book I ordered my copy right away. When I got the book at 12:30 in the mail i started reading it and was done by 4:30...just couldn't put it down! I know she had gone through a lot but oh man this book put a lot into prospective with being able to read the emotional part of it. Lauren is a warrior in an amazing way that I could never have the strength to do and her mother even though she wasn't the patient she was and is 100% a warrior alongside her daughter. The book brought to tears to my eyes and I can't wait to recommend it to everyone.

It captivates your thoughts and draws you into each day, each battle and struggle. Not only do you begin to understand the magnitude of what's going on, it comes from a mother's perspective watching what her child is going through. You see the raw life in a hospital where day after day you see improvement only to take major steps back. You will be in awe of the human spirit, the strength of a warrior, whose thirst for life drove her through the day to day challenges receiving a new heart has brought. I encourage you to read this, to learn and understand the strength of our drive to live, to do more than survive, so when life knocks on your door (and it will at some point) you can know the strength to persevere is in there, it's locked inside, we just need the courage and strength to let our warrior come out to save us.

This is not a long book, it can be read in a single sitting. That being said, it feels long due to the amount of time the family waited for a donor organ and the struggles and setbacks that occurred along the way. It's a true story that is taken from the blog the mother kept to keep family and friends up to date on her daughter's condition. If you have children, you'll feel the mother's heartache. If don't, you'll marvel at her endurance and love. Then, there is the courage and STRENGTH that her daughter possesses in her marathon ordeal. An inspirational story.I bought the Kindle edition and I do have to comment that there were some formatting issues and a few passages were repeated or printed out of order. These are NOT the authors fault, they are publishing mistakes. Please don't let this take away from the content.P.S. Sign up to be an organ donor! It can be a life saver!

This book portrays the struggles of a beautiful young girl and her family. The strength this family has is remarkable. I was so moved by this story. I did not want to put the book down. I have never met Lauren or her family but I am truly heartbroken for all the pain and suffering they have endured. When you think your struggles are too much just remember someone else is struggling worse than you. So be thankful for your health and your everyday freedom. This was purchased as a gift for a beekeeper. I was pleased that it was a hardback, good paperstock and lots of viable information and places for notes and records. If I were a bee keeper I would get one for myself. Wish they would do journals for other things: gratitude journal or a bullet journal form. I would get it.

I thought this would be more of a register for our bee hives. We were looking for something that we could document our finding on the hives, along with recording our treatments, brood and queen status. This was not the book to get. It does have blank pages with recipes scattered throughout.

I was expecting a hardcovered spiral bound book I could take with me to make hive observation notes. This is bound like regular book- very tightly and makes it difficult to write in it. But itâ€™s still a beautiful book

I gave this to a family member who are about to begin beekeeping and they really liked the book. It's a good introduction, and is well known in the beekeeping world. It's both informational and a well laid out journal to keep track of your beekeeping adventures.

I bought this book for my mother in law. she was so excited about it because she has 4 hives to keep up with and she writes EVERYTHING DOWN. This book comes in handy for her !

As a Newbee beek last Spring ('14), I received this as a gift & I just love it. It's very helpful for keeping my hive journal & is filled w/ lots of helpful info, tidbits, recipes, etc. I've met Kim Flottum & this journal is written the way he speaks. Information that is easy to understand.

The image graphic made it appear spiral-bound, but is not. Won't stay open to make notes. Completely impractical to use from a beekeeping/record keeping perspective. Way too pretty to take to the hive. Maybe it would work as a scrapbook. I gave it away.

I bought this for my husband as he has just started bee keeping. It is perfect for notes and sketching. He was very pleased with it.

what an antique.no ebook.it is very old with no plans for an update shame on professors still using this.most examples are unrelatable "like going to a machine with 256mb ram""all hard drives are and always will be thousands of times slower than ram"this type of stuff is heavily, HEAVILY, mixed into every topic. it makes reading the topic incredibly tedious and a slow page turner.many of the examples in this book were old when the book was published, making it hard to relate to his advice and stay focused on the material.would you buy a book on automotive repair based on 20 year old vehicles?save your money, if your prof is somehow still using this book, google the topics on the syllabus for a primer instead.

I have seen good C programming tutorials, and this is not one. It isn't very descriptive. It will introduce you to new library functions and not give a good explanation on it, and then it rarely describes the code snipets. The C Primer Plus by SAMS is far superior to this for learning C. Having said that, this book is decent in its coverage for UNIX system calls with C, in that it is easier for a beginner to understand the code snipets in this book as compared to other books I have seen. Other books I have seen require you to at least already be an intermediate C programmer, and use examples that require you to study the complex code snipets before you can begin to understand what is being accomplished with the system calls.The author/publisher hasn't updated this book with regard to hardware, and it talks about 286's, 386's, 486's and Pentium processors. It considers 16 bit and 32 bit processing, and it puts too much emphasis on 16 bit, when every compiler I have seen for C is 32 bit. It even gives suggestions based on 16 bit technology. It references DOS, and if anyone is still running DOS, they shouldn't be reading a book about programming. They should be reading about survival skills and moving to Montana and building a bomb shelter.So, to learn C, this isn't a good book. If you are dealing with the C/UNIX environment and are a beginner, the end of this book is decent for understanding system calls, as long as you already understand C from some better, more up to date source.

It needs a bit of updating for more modern computers.

This book did an amazing job of introducing many important concepts about C, and C in UNIX.The description of the material is very clear, and the examples are well thought out.If you're looking for a beginner/intermediate text on C and UNIX, this is THE book to get.

Learning C and Unix at the same time is the best way to learn both.

The C Unix Programmer's Guide was the only book I could find that provided useful background information as well as thoughtful, applicable coding examples. What impressed me most is the fact that all the information found in the man pages on C as well as further insight was combined into an easily readable and searchable format. As a student of computer science, I was familiar with Borland/Microsoft C++, but I had no previous experience with C or Unix. This book helped me get an A (one of three) in Operating Systems! While my classmates struggled on assignments, I was able to find exactly what I needed to complete the assignments on time. I truly believe that without this book I would not have performed nearly as well. Thank you Mr. Bacon for writing such a great book!

I wish this had been my First C programming book. It teaches all the basics required for you to start some worthful programming under *nix. It doesn't go into as many details for e.g., as given in 'C programming: A modern Approach by King but it still gives many details on what things are. It starts with basics of Unix and provides a lot of information on the C development tools in *nix. A very good starting point for learning programming in C under *nix.

About the Author

Rev. Alexia Salvatierra is an ordained pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She also serves as a consultant for a variety of organizations, including World Vision USA/World Vision International/Women of Vision, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, the Christian Community Development Association the WomensÂ’ Donor Network, Auburn Theological Seminary, Interfaith Worker Justice, PICO and Sojourners. She is adjunct faculty at the New York Theological Seminary and Biola University, and for over eleven years she was the executive director of Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE).

This book by Alexia Salvatierra and Peter Heltzel arrived in my mailbox today and after spending the afternoon "deep browsing" it I am convinced it is a must read for any person of faith who really cares about making a difference - abandoning our myopic, navel-gazing focus on narcissistic spirituality, seeking to love (only) one another while the neighborhoods, the cities, the environment, and the world goes to hell. I'm not an "evangelical" any more, but this prophetic evangelical activism is one of the most promising developments in contemporary Christianity. Buy it. Read it. Give it away. Live it out.

When authors do more than teach, encourage, or challenge, when they share deeply from personal experience both the bitter and the sweet, when they write from a loving desire to grow the capacities of all who commit to building a more beloved community, they inspire us once again to believe, to act, to become more at-one with our neighbors.I have recommended this book frequently to colleagues, neighbors, and family members. More now than ever, the silent screams for justice need to be heard and a response made with all the best that our roots in faith have fed us. It is time to bear better, sweeter fruit together.

During the twentieth century, Evangelicalism removed itself from social justice related activities. Thankfully, we have gradually re-entered the realm of charity as our theology became less reactive and, slowly, are participating in community development. As our lives are becoming increasingly interconnected with the poorâ€™s and as we learn to view our world from their disinherited positions, we are forced to recognize that the systems forming our society are unjust and in need of transformation. In this trajectory, Salvatierra and Heltzel seek to guide the Church in discerning the distinct ways our theology informs the tasks of organizing and advocating for justice.Faith-Rooted Organizing is in many ways written in conversation with Saul Alinskyâ€™s traditional organizing techniques, and is therefore a work of contextual missiology which insightfully critiques and affirms what the culture has already offered to the world of organizing (perhaps a modern day effort to transform the radical Saul into a redeemed Paul?).The best section of the book--thanks to their skill in addressing the subject in both its biblical and contemporary settings--is the authorâ€™s exploration of shalom justice. Organizing must be directed toward some end. For Christians, that end is the biblical vision of shalom which characterizes the just systems and reconciled relationships of the Kingdom of God. Shalom is the marriage of â€œjustice to peace and loveâ€ (34). As such, our methods for achieving justice must be consistent with our goals. Violence and self-interested power grabbing are not adequate Kingdom strategies for justice. Rather, we are to achieve transformation through creativity, relinquishing power to the â€œleast of these,â€ standing together as a community which embodies our yearnings for the broader world and by loving our enemies.Unfortunately, this is not an organizing text that can stand by itself. The strength of the book is its reconsideration of organizing tactics through the prism of the Christian faith. However, precisely because it is a â€˜reconsiderationâ€™ it largely skips on providing basic how toâ€™s. For example, the authors mention â€œpower mappingâ€ in passing but do not equip the reader to power map before moving on to explore power from a Kingdom lens.Though some practical advice bleeds through their stories, the lack of concrete strategies is an unfortunate oversight that could have been easily corrected.That said, this is a fantastic book and is now essential reading for any Christian who wants to work with the oppressed to transform unjust power systems.

In a day when the Heritage Foundation is working to reduce Christian social justice to acts compassion and charity, while explicitly ignoring the broken systems that create injustice, the Evangelical community needs a biblically-rooted call to amplify the voices of people in poverty, on the margins or facing oppression - to re-member we are called to hurt with those who are hurting (I Cor 12:26) - and to work together to bring systemic change in our communities.Rich in theology, Scripture, church history and moving stories, Faith-Rooted Organizing delivers the first must-read of 2014 for any Follower of Christ (or activists and organizers seeking to better understand what churches can bring to your efforts).I especially appreciate the notes Alexia writes to the next generation of leaders at the end of each chapter.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. There is no fluff, no pomp, just two down-to-earth human beings writing about their experiences organizing for social justice in churches and communities.Not only do they draw heavily on their own experience, but also on the Alinsky model, which is widely accepted (and used). They make tweaks here and there to create the faith-rooted model, which is adapted to be used in churches and other faith-based communities.Everything about this book is useful and wonderful: The success stories, the organizational strategies, motivational strategies, leadership instruction, use of language, everything you could possibly think of to organize for social justice is in this book. If you are a Christian and want to help people who are disadvantaged, I highly recommend "Faith-Rooted Organizing."
