I love this book! It is very helpful! I love that it is hard cover and the rubber-ish feel to it. The dust cover it nice but I always take it off when using because it gets in the way, always sliding off, etc.. Very nice cloth that comes with this(we aren't opening ours though). Amazon sells this at an unbeatable price!

Since Diamond and Pearl, the "official" Pokemon guides (produced by the Pokemon Company and published/distributed by Prima) have been released in two volumes, with the Pokedex being included in the second volume, with the exception of Platinum's guide which was thicker and did have a Pokedex. So I bought the X/Y guide realizing and expecting this. What is annoying is that, while pages for each location have a listing of the Pokemon available, there's no index at the back that lists Pokemon by name and points out what routes they are found in for cross-referencing. There's also no listing of attacks and items at the back, just a TM list and info on what the Marts sell. I know that the Diamond/Pearl guide had these lists, because I just checked it as I'm writing this.The guide is hardcover and smaller in terms of page size, about the size of a novel. Which means that the maps and font are smaller and it's much harder to lay flat opened to a specific page. I don't see why they went this route with this guide, especially for reasons that I'll cover later. As a walkthrough, it is fairly detailed, pointing out items, listing (but not identifying on the map) hidden items, and showing the locations of each enemy trainer and the number of Pokemon they have (but not their complete rosters; then again, these guides have never included them). Full rosters are given for major opponents, and detailed strategies are given for Gym Leaders and the Elite Four. The walkthrough only covers up to the Elite Four - post-game matters will likely be in the next volume. It covers how to use the game's touch screen and communication features. So as a walkthrough, it's okay - not great, since I would have liked to see an alphabetical list of available Pokemon as well as details about the attacks and items - after all, this is a new generation of games, so there's going to be new examples of both.So, why did I say this guide was of poor quality? Its construction. Like many of the recent Pokemon guides, this one is printed on semi-glossy paper with poor-quality ink that tends to smear. I was hoping that since this is a supposed "collector's edition" that they would have used upgraded ink to print it. What is worse, however, is the horrible binding job that they did with my particular copy. The back cover and last page of the book has separated from the rest of it after less than a month of use, which is inexcusable. And no, I was not rough with handling the book. The binding came apart through normal use. Of course, the fact that it is a hardcover made using it normally (as a guide that you need to keep opened to a particular page) difficult.I'd really rather they stuck with the old-style (paperback, full-size) Pokemon guides (except with better quality ink, of course). Because not only is this hardcover edition smaller and harder to keep open to a specific page, apparently it was designed solely as a collector's item and wasn't durable enough to withstand, you know, actually using it as a guide.

Any time there is a new Pokémon game coming out, I always preorder the guide book with it. It's just what I've been doing since Gold, Silver, and Crystal. The best guide book I ever bought was the one for Platinum. It was huge, but something was missing from it. When Black and White came out with their Hardcover guide books, it was perfect.When I bought this book, I was expecting something similar and in-between Platinum up through Black and White 1&2. The only thing this book offers you is a simple walkthrough of the game. There is nothing in the back of the book about the Kalos Region pokédex. Nothing on how they evolve or when. On top of that, some of the info in the book is also wrong, such has some of the Horde info. Much better off using Serebii for that sort of info. The book itself, while conveniently hardcover, is also quite small. Certainly nothing compared to the former guidebooks.If you're looking for just a walkthrough, this book is fairly ok for it. But if you're in need of more than that, you'd be better off using the internet for it and saving your money.

Three stars because the information contained within the book is laid out well, and is as good as the guides before it.I've read a lot of the past reviews and have this to say.1) No regional 'Dex is unacceptable. I got it, most of us probably don't need a national pokedex in a volume 1, but c'mon, give us a regional Dex.2) The size is atrocious. This half size book means they likely did half ass research on wether or not this book would be appreciated at this size. Let me tell you now, it's not! The larger books can lay open in my lap while I am playing; this small one is an inconvenience at numerous levels, but mostly because it keep flopping shut on me.3) A couple of the features from previous books have been left out. The main one is the "day of the week guide" and the easy 2 page summary guide, usually found at the beginning of the old books. Those two features are exceptionally helpful and are, sadly, absent.All in all, the information provided is mostly complete, there wasn't a lot of info on the legendaries birds, which would have been helpful (like how to track them?!?!), but I still used the book extensively.

This is not a very big book but was perfect for a religious education teacher gift. The pages were nice quality and ink leakage will not be a problem.

Challenging enough yet doable for a non-genius

This book would be a lot of fun at a Catholic dinner party, college and high school ministry events, or simply for the guy or gal looking to stay as mentally sharp as a tack. But in order to know the rest how about you go find a copy of this beautiful book and read it for yourself.As for my rating of this book I give it a five out of five stars. I love how Natasha was able to depicted this stunning world, mix with Malaysian and Chinese culture. Lei was an incredibly strong female who did not know she had any strength until she fell in love with the right person. Natasha gave Lei an amazing build up as a character in this unique world filled with demons. The way Lei discover her love for her partner or discovers the strength to fight back against everyone who told her to obey. She became a fierce female as the story continue. I also love the way Natasha discusses discrimination in Lei World and explain how love is simply love. Natasha was able to take such a hardcore topic as discrimination and make it so simply to explain to this world. I love that part of the story so much. I love how Lei discovers that she is able to fight when she considers herself unable to do anything. I love the flirting between the love match in this book it was so incredibly beautiful. I love all of the detail Natasha added into this story, how that detail was able to turn a simple story into magic. Natasha writing reminds me of Leigh Bardugo, it is filled with a magic about it. It is something you will continue to think about again and again. I seriously cant wait for the next book in this story. This story is filled to the brim with female empowerment and also with love for your fellow person regardless of race or gender. This story will become a classic for the ages because of the message Natasha talks about in this book. I really did love the beauty of the world in this book and I will recommend it to everyone. I hope you will you will check out this inspiring world that Natasha has provide for all of us.

Girls of Paper and Fire is about a girl who is chosen to be one of the concubines for the demon king. However, she falls in love with another concubine. This Asian-inspired fantasy has excellent world-building and different kinds of Asian cultures represented in the world of Ikhara. The prose are gorgeous, lush, almost melodic in a sense. Girls reminds me of how music builds in a piece, like Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers. Yes, the music starts out nice and soft, but it completely envelops you by the final section. By the end of the book, I wished there was more to read because I wanted nothing more than to live in this world for even three more pages. (Luckily, it’s a trilogy!) Despite the dark undertones and the political overtones of how men abuse their power, I found Girls to be an extremely hopeful book. In the face of adversity, the main character is able to find healing through love and friendships.If you’re like me (read: in love with food), then you’ll swoon for the descriptions of all the food. I also greatly appreciated it because food is so huge in Asian culture. (Of course I’m generalizing, as there are many different Asian cultures, but I’ve found that most Asian cultures revere food.) Don’t read this book on an empty stomach, or at least have a myriad of Asian food are your disposal; you will want to eat ALL THE FOOD. Girls of Paper and Fire is an extremely important book, like how Natasha tackles dark issues with care. It highlights the importance of inner strength, and the ability to find hope in the worst circumstances. Yes, it’s an important book; it’s also a damn good book. From the writing to the characters, the plot and the setting, Girls of Paper and Fire is the whole package.

Waiting for more, more anything got me thru the book. The protagonist is “supposed” to have fire. But beyond fighting a bit here and there, she goes along with the path she is forced to take. I don’t FEEL anything but mild pity for her and the situation she finds herself in. The world building is mediocre at best, leaving me with lots of questions and no answers. Memoirs of a Geisha meets beastiality, but at least she kept it clean. Is it the worst $12.99 I’ve ever spent, nope, but... I feel there was a better story here we just didn’t get.

I really enjoyed this book. There's an unexpected depth and largesse to her style. She doesn't move through the images with haste and in doing so she manages to avoid simplistic answers and still conveying a certain honestly about terrible things that can happen. Masterfully done. I look forward to her following book! Honestly, the author did get me all fired up about just how unfair life can be, but the intensity, or density, so to speak, of her descriptions--scenes made Lei and Wren, "real" in a way that the Hunger Games' story line and characters couldn't. Painfully, albeit, both realistically and magically so. It's worth the price (and binge reading!)

I like the book and depending on the person, I would recommend it.I will say, that 35% of the way via my kindle app, I found it difficult to get through, because of the subject matter. I have a hard time watching, reading, or otherwise being entrenches in characters or a story that involves rape or sexual exploitation.I found it hard waiting around to read about women selected to be raped. (It is not overly graphic and it’s written tastefully.) It’s part of the story, but it is not everything. I don’t want to taint anyone else’s opinion of it, and it is a worthy read, but it took me a while to get invested.The story and characters had depth. I did want the main character to be more of her own advocate.The love story evolved beautifully. I’m expecting a sequel to this novel, since it ends with a lot of promise. I’d like to read more about these two women, their backstories are deep & creative. I want more of this universe, especially where it left off.

I have been a big fan of sports-based manga and in Japan a lot of their sports manga and anime are big hits. From the soccer-driven series “Captain Tsubasa”, the basketball series “Slam Dunk”, the baseball series “Touch”, the tennis series “Tennis no Oujisama” (Prince of Tennis) and many of them have this underdog vs. the better team type of mentality.Yes, there is a banality when it comes to sports manga series but there is often this side of supernatural element that an athlete has. A super kick, a special tennis serving or hitting ability and with “Eyeshield 21″, what makes the series so exciting is that every team has its special individuals with unique talents. But when it comes to the Deimon Devil Bats (the protagonist team), these guys are like a group of misfits put together in hopes to accomplishing their goal of making it to the Christmas Bowl. But they are surely talented. Sena (Eyeshield 21) has this special ability of his running and in this latest volume, he hones that talent and makes himself even better. We also see new characters pop up and joins the team and definitely see how everyone works together, faces adversity together as a team.For so long, we have read of them taking on all these awesome football teams, each with their own special players. And it was a long hard battle for these guys but they made it to the final match and what is most exciting about this volume is that its an opponent unlike they have ever faced before.But that can also work in reverse for Teikoku High School, a proud high school known for having the best facilities, grooming their football teams to become the best.But for Deimon High School, these bunch of misfits have pride and also have what it takes to surprise everyone they have come up against.Similar to other sports anime in which there is an underdog getting involved with sports and displays a tremendous skill, “Eyeshield 21″ definitely showcases that into the storyline but with the characters, in this case the team is more like the “Bad News Bears” and with the “The Devil Bats”, the team consists of characters that are just wild and crazy. Actually, all teams have characters that are wild and crazy and I suppose that is what makes “Eyeshield 21″ so interesting and enjoyable.But volume 33 is all about the Christmas Bowl, the strategies employed by each team and some history of players of the Teikoku High School football team. And how everything is now down to the final quarter with Deimon High School behind by 35 – 0. Is it possible for them to mount a comeback?If you are looking for a sports manga series, “Eyeshield 21″ volume 33 is definitely a series worth checking out! Recommended!
